BRIEF: Men robbed on boardwalk

ST. CROIX, Jan 25, 2013 (The Virgin Islands Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Police are investigating an armed robbery reported in Christiansted early Thursday morning.

V.I. Police spokeswoman Melody Rames said Thursday afternoon that police emergency dispatchers received a call at 12:42 a.m. Thursday reporting a robbery on the Christiansted Boardwalk.

Based on preliminary information provided to police, two men were walking on the Christiansted Boardwalk when they were approached by two masked gunmen who demanded their valuables, Rames said.

The two gunmen took less than $100 and two cell phones from the two men and left the area heading west, according to Rames.

Neither victim was injured, and the incident has been classified as a first-degree robbery, Rames said.

Rames said Thursday that no other information was available on that robbery or second robbery reported at 11:42 a.m. Thursday from someone who walked into the Anselmo Marshall Command Police Station at Bassin Triangle.

Anyone with information, can call police at 911 or report what they know to the confidential tip line at 1-800-222-8477.
