BRIEF: Winterfest is under way at the Greenbrier
Jan 26, 2013 (The Register-Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Winterfest Weekend at The Greenbrier is full of wintertime activities for all ages, from ice skating and live music to ice carving and carriage rides.
Chief Operating Officer Bruce McGinnis said admission is free and the main attraction is the ice carving competition.
A speed carving competition was held Friday at 6 p.m. Carvers had 15 minutes to complete a sculpture in this fast-paced single-elimination challenge.
Spectators can expect to be wowed as more carving events unfold today, McGinnis said.
"It's really amazing to see what they can create. The ice sculptures are competitors at the highest level and they are truly artists."
A single block carve and deliver competition will be held today at 10 a.m. and a two-block showpiece competition will be held at 4 p.m.
Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. and Lady D will perform tonight, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Wine tastings, afternoon tea, ice skating, and carriage rides will also be available throughout the weekend.
