BRIEF: School board to boss: Mull guns at L.M.
MANDATA, Jan 26, 2013 (The Daily Item - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The decision this week by board members to authorize the administration to consider allowing firearms in Line Mountain School District buildings was one of the most contentious issues directors have had to face, Superintendent David Campbell said Thursday.
"It's a tough call, no matter how you look at it," Campbell said. "And our board members certainly had varied opinions on the subject -- some argued that teachers should be armed. Others didn't."
Ultimately, directors voted 9-0 that Line Mountain should consider whatever action necessary to supply safety measures in classrooms and security resources to ensure safety.
Line Mountain's considerations come in the aftermath of the massacre in Newtown, Conn., where Adam Lanza on Dec. 14 gunned down 20 students and six adults inside Sandy Hook Elementary School.
