Missouri tops UNI, 27-9

Jan 27, 2013 (Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Seventh-ranked Missouri controlled the action on their feet and on the mat as the Tigers rolled to a 27-9 victory over Northern Iowa Sunday at the West Gym.


Missouri (10-1) recorded three major decisions and avenged two prior individual losses to Panther individuals in the first meeting as members of the Mid-American Conference for the two rivals.

The Tigers got major decisions from Nathan McCormick at 133, Drake Houdashelt at 149 and Brent Haynes at 197.

Additionally, Kyle Bradley topped David Bonin at 157, and Todd Porter beat Cody Caldwell at 174, to reverse losses those two suffered to the UNI duo at the Las Vegas Cliff Keen Invitational in December.

The Panthers (6-3) got wins from Joey Lazor at 141, a 3 minute and 45 second pin of Trevor Jauch, and Ryan Loder avenged a Cliff Keen loss to Mike Larson with a 3-0 win at 184.

Loder scored a pair of near fall points in the final five seconds of the second period and escaped late in the third ffor the difference.
