Burglar breaks window, feels pain of arrest

Jan 28, 2013 (The Pueblo Chieftain - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary for breaking into a another man's home while he was out of town.

Adam J. Martinez, 23, broke a window and forced his way into the apartment of Christopher Romero on the 2100 block of Norman Lane, according to an affidavit.

A neighbor heard a window break in the apartment below her and called police.

When police arrived they noticed the window on the east side of the apartment was broken.

Officers yelled at Martinez to make his presence known and received no response.

Martinez tried to escape through various windows but officers were surrounding the apartment.

Martinez finally offered to come to the door to let the officers inside.

Police did not question Martinez but he told them he heard the window break and came to investigate because the apartment belongs to his friend (Romero). He couldn't give officers his last name or how to contact him when pressed.

Officers received Romero's phone number from a neighbor and called him.

Romero said he was in Alamosa and that he didn't know who Martinez was.

Nothing appeared to be missing from the apartment, according to police.

Martinez was being held in Pueblo County jail without bail pending a court appearance.

THEFT EAST SIDE Ten storage carts worth an estimated $5,000 were reported stolen from the Dollar General store in the 1500 block of Troy Avenue early Sunday morning.

Store manager Juan Martinez said someone stole the carts in the last couple of days from the back of the store.

The carts are 6-feet tall and are used to store and transport store merchandise.

According to a police report, officers are checking around at local metal shops to see if the carts have been turned in and scrapped.

ARREST Tammy L. Gonzales, 43, of the 400 block of Jones Avenue, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of identity theft. She was being held in Pueblo County jail without bail pending a court appearance.
