Unique partnership combines real estate transactions with auctioning
ALTON, Jan 28, 2013 (The Telegraph - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Calling themselves a "one stop shop," Travis Tarrant and Mark Harman of Tarrant and Harman Real Estate and Auction Co. say their experience and background can help ease the stress of liquidation and sales.
"Mark and I knew each other through family and friends, growing up in the same area," Tarrant said. "My father was an appraiser and developer, building houses, and Mark's father has been in the auction business for over 20 years. We decided to partner up because we wanted to offer a diversified approach to selling real estate.
"This way, we can list houses traditionally while also offering auction services as well."
The old friends opened their business in July 2010 and moved into their current digs at 3644 Fosterburg Road in January 2012.
"We know how important it is to find your dream home or get the best offer for your property," the website states. "Therefore, we will make it our responsibility to help you achieve those goals."
In addition to the search and sale of homes, they also are equipped to handle all aspects of auction sales (often working with sister company Harman Auction). The pair, along with six real estate brokers who work for the company as independent contractors, strive to remain hands-on from the beginning of the working relationship with their clients.
"We will spend some time with you, looking around and making sure everything is in line and let you know what needs to be done before we even start with the selling process," Harman said.
Although the pair are young entrepreneurs, their approach to dealing with the community is very "old school," believing in the concept that a firm handshake is stronger than a written contract, and hard work and a man's word still mean something.
"We renovated some houses together before we started this company," Harman said. "We know the industry, and we know the area."
Rounding out the real estate team are agents Ali Tarrant, Nick Cain, Bobby Hosfelt, Andrew Herrin, Brandon Fergurson and Elvis Tarrant.
Tarrant and Harman also is affiliated with Cabela's Outfitters in a recreational real estate listing service called Cabela's Trophy Properties. The partnership is an exclusive recreational property listing service for marketing fine sporting and recreational properties to sportsmen and investors worldwide.
"Cabela's Trophy Properties is a global network of professionals who are on track to become the ultimate one-stop shop for the purchase, sale, improvement and management of recreational properties," Tarrant said. "It helps us offer further marketing capabilities for recreational properties, farmland, hunting properties, anything that revolves around recreation, really.
"We started out with the residential sales, and we have also moved into light commercial."
The move is an expansion, not a shift in focus, the partners say.
"We are not getting away from residential," Harman said. "Around here, that is our mainstay."
