Detroit, Green Bay and Houston Top Million Fan Salute
SAN ANTONIO --(Business Wire)--
Fans of the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans
"saluted" their way to the top of the Million Fan Salute campaign
developed by the NFL and its Official Military Appreciation Sponsor,
USAA.
All 32 NFL teams identified local military units as part of the NFL's
Salute to Service campaign spotlighted throughout November. Fans were
asked to visit www.millionfansalute.com
to create a digital salute for the military on behalf of their favorite
NFL team. The three cities garnering the most salutes would earn rewards
for their local military communities courtesy of USAA.
The Lions, Packers and Texans selected the Michigan National Guard,
Wisconsin Army National Guard and Texas Air National Guard respectively.
As a result, those units became beneficiaries for the Million Fan Salute
rewards, which are being tailored to meet the individual needs of each
unit.
USAA will help the Michigan National Guard make equipment upgrades and
other improvements to its fitness center at Camp Grayling, and assist
the Wisconsin Army National Guard with fitness equipment upgrades at a
number of its istallations around the state of Wisconsin.
"The equipment upgrades will provide a boost for everyone, and we
appreciate the entire Lions community who helped make it happen," says
Camp Grayling Garrison Commander Erich Randall. "Because it's used for
both training and recreation, the fitness center is a big part of life
here."
"We are honored to have such a close relationship with the Green Bay
Packers, and their support of our soldiers and airmen has been nothing
short of phenomenal. The additional recreational equipment supported by
USAA directly benefits all our service members and is greatly
appreciated. We thank USAA for their continued support of the National
Guard," says Brig. Gen. Mark Anderson.
Houston's Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base will use their reward to
help construct a jogging trail adjacent to a new athletic track under
construction.
"The Houston community has a long history of standing behind military
members and veterans everywhere," says Ellington's 147th Vice Commander
Col. Terence Winkler. "We're extremely grateful for the support we have
received, and look forward to having an area where our reserve and guard
men and women can exercise off the streets and away from traffic.
"Congratulations to all three winners of the Million Fan Salute for
rallying their fan bases to thank and honor the military," said Don
Clark, USAA executive director of sports sponsorships and events. "This
program underscores that USAA and the entire NFL community actively
stands behind all those who have served."
