WALLA WALLA -- Travis Haen had a hot hand Friday night and DeSales rode it to victory in a Southeast 2B boys basketball game against visiting Waitsburg-Prescott.
Haen, a senior wing, scored baskets from all over the court en route to 30 points and a 76-55 DeSales victory.
The Irish improve to 5-4 in SE2B play and 10-9 overall and have already clinched a berth in the District 7/9 tournament.
W-P falls to 1-8 and 4-14 with the loss.
The Irish hit 30-of-67 (45 percent) from the field in the victory. W-P hit 21-of-44 (48 percent).
Haen was as efficient as he was prolific, hitting 12-of-17 (70 percent) from the field, including a 6-of-9 mark (66 percent) from 3.
DeSales held a 17-13 advantage after one and went to the break with a 40-32 lead before busting the game open in the third.
Haen, who scored 12 in the first half, scored 13 of DeSales' 18 third-quarter points.
Combined with a refocused DeSales defense that held W-P to just 7 points in the quarter, the Irish lead expanded to 58-39 entering the fourth and final period of play.
DeSales' lead grew as large as 24, 70-46, with 2:26 to play before a flurry of Irish fouls allowed W-P to go on a 9-2 run to close out the game.
