BRIEF: Deputies: Copper, clamps stolen from electric substation in Clover

CLOVER, Feb 02, 2013 (The Herald (Rock Hill - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Two workers this week discovered that someone stole 150 feet of copper cable and 24 bronze cable clamps from a New Horizon Electric Cooperative substation in Clover, police say.

On Tuesday, deputies spoke with the operations and maintenance manager at New Horizon, who said that someone cut several feet of copper cable and disconnected bronze clamps from the substation on Green Pond road within the last two weeks, according to a York County Sheriff's report.

Two employees found the items missing on Monday. According to the report, employees check the substation every two weeks.

Police saw where the cables had been cut and the clamps disconnected, the report states. Authorities also noticed tire tracks and boot prints in the gravel and a part of a chain link fence pulled out.

The manager said the tracks were caused by the trucks workers drive. Police have assigned more officers to patrol all the cell towers and electrical substations in the area, the report says.
