BRIEF: Ramsey County Sheriff creates warrant database for public
Feb 02, 2013 (Pioneer Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A system launched by the Ramsey County sheriff's office this week allows community members to view online active arrest warrants issued in the county.
The law enforcement agency says it hopes the new tool will increase public safety, encourage fugitives to turn themselves in and reduce the number of active warrants in the county, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.
Called Online Warrant Search, the web-based feature allows citizens to search the county's arrest warrant database by typing in a first and last name.
Warrants are issued by a judge for people suspected of a crime or for someone who fails to follow an order of the court, such as not showing up for a court hearing, according to the statement.
The warrant calls for the person to be apprehended and arrested.
Anyone wishing to contact the sheriff's office regarding a wanted person can do so anonymously.
To search the system or learn more about the county's warrant unit, go to co.ramsey.mn.us/sheriff/warrants.
