Body Found During Search for Missing Person
Feb 03, 2013 (Odessa American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Authorities searching for a missing person near Jaguars Gold Club found a man's body about a mile away in a body of water, according to the Ector County Sheriff's Office.
The body has not been identified yet and will be sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy, Sgt. Gary Duesler said. But a grief stricken Debra Belin said she believed it was her 23-year-old brother, Jason Belin of White Cone, Ariz.
"We are still waiting on his stuff to make sure it's him," she said in a brief conversation Saturday as she traveled from Abilene back to Odessa in response to the discovery.
The Sheriff's office began searching for the man at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and found the body in water in the area of the 100 block of Proctor Avenue, a release from the agency stated. A Texas Department of Public Safety dive team pulled the body from the water at about 2 p.m.
The area is about two blocks south of East Loop 338 on Cargo Road.
Jason Belin was last seen Jan. 24 at Jaguars, 6824 Cargo Road, by three of his friends, the Odessa American previously reported. Debra Belin said he traveled with three friends from Arizona last week to look for work in the Permian Basin constructing transmission lines.
She said one of the men called their family Jan. 25 to say they had not seen him. Since her brother's disappearance, Debra Belin said she had called jails and hospitals in Odessa, Midland and Big Spring, but could not find him.
"We have also been out on foot looking near Jaguars, but found nothing," Debra Belin said to the paper on Monday.
