BR-BlackBerry-Super-Bowl
(Canadian Press Broadcast Wire (Canada) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TORONTO - Less than a week after debuting its new smartphone, the maker of the BlackBerry has aired a 30-second Super Bowl commercial to try to pump up sales in the U-S.
But in an unusual marketing twist, the focus of the ad was on what the new device can't do.
It showed a man leaving a store playing with the features of his new BlackBerry Z-10.
The first time he swipes the phone's screen his sweater catches fire and the second time his lower body turns into elephant legs.
When he swipes the phone again he bursts into colourful powder before another swipe turns a crashing tanker truck into hundreds of rubber duckies.
The commercial ends with the tagline, ``In 30 seconds it's quicker to show what it can't do.''
While the phone goes on sale in Canada tomorrow, American customers will have to wait another month or so to get theirs.
