Fujitsu to book 1st net loss in 4 yrs on chip operation integration
(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TOKYO, Feb. 6 -- (Kyodo) _ Fujitsu Ltd. is expected to fall into the red for the first time in four years and book a consolidated net loss of around 100 billion yen for fiscal 2012 due to a massive loss related to the planned integration of system LSI chip operation with Panasonic Corp., sources close to the matter said Wednesday.
Fujitsu and Panasonic on Thursday will officially announce the merger plan aimed at returning their LSI chip manufacturing operations to profitability by integrating their design and development functions, the sources said. LSI chips are used in such products as cars and digital appliances.
Renesas Electronics Corp. initially took part in the integration negotiations, but the struggling chipmaker did not reach terms with the other two companies, they said.
