Cabinet fails to provide security with telecoms data [Daily Star, The (Lebanon)]
(Daily Star, The (Lebanon) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BEIRUT: The Cabinet failed to act Wednesday on a request to provide security bodies with telecoms data.
Information Minister Walid Daouk said the Cabinet heard a report from Judge Shukri Sader, the head of the Shura Council, on all legal aspects of dealing with requests by security bodies for telecoms data following a recent official visit to France by judicial officials to study the application of such laws.
Daouk said any decision by the Justice Ministry's Consultative Committee "will become effective following the signatures of the interior and defense ministers and the prime minister."
The Interior Ministry has requested that the Telecoms Ministry extend its provision of data to security bodies, backdated to the first of the year.
