Having Acne Past One's Teen Years Continues to be a Struggle for 40-50% of Adults, Probiotic Action comments on news from The Vitals Blog and WebMD

Miami, FL, Feb 08, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Most have heard the old saying that "Beauty is only skin deep." Although this may be true for some, it may be the most difficult quote for adults suffering from acne to understand.

For the past few years, the medical industry has been highlight the fact that acne has been linked to depression, and is NOT limited to teens. A recent article from The Vitals Blog tells us that women in their 40's are still suffering from acne. Considering 40% of adult women suffer from acne, many also report that their insurance companies refuse to pay for their acne treatment. Although shocking that many adults are still suffering despite the advances in modern medicine, the fight against acne still continues.

Several years ago WebMD produced a video video highlighting different adults suffering from Acne. The video portrays the attitudes of those suffering from acne such as Lauren, a female patient has a much more difficult time dealing with her condition than males in the same age range. The video reveals although Lauren's condition may not seem severe, the effects of acne have been the cause of undo stress and anxiety which she has sought treatment for.

Fernando Perez, a spokesman for Probiotic Action, sympathizes with those suffering from the annoying skin condition, "No one should have to deal with the stress of not feeling beautiful. Our society puts pressure on us to have a stellar outside appearance, and for many this could be a major stress in their lives. I find it incredible that we have still such a high percentage of adults suffering from the condition." Perez adds that since acne is constantly visible, its understandable that patients could suffer emotionally from the constant exposed condition. For sufferers like the above mentioned Lauren, feelings of depression are not uncommon. The impact on a patient's quality of life from acne could be as much as a patient with chronic asthma, epilepsy, or even diabetes, as confirmed in the video. Perez urges those suffering to be proactive in exploring the best acne treatment, as well as mental therapy.

Perez also states that with the current state of health care in the United States being able to get the right treatment for many adults may add additional stress, worsening their condition.
