BRIEF: Bremerton man charged with hit-and-run

Feb 09, 2013 (Kitsap Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- EAST BREMERTON -- A 58-year-old Bremerton man was charged Friday in Kitsap County District Court with felony hit-and-run after he allegedly hit a woman who was walking at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Cherry Avenue on Wednesday.

The woman told a Bremerton Police officer that she was about halfway through the intersection when a red truck approached on Chestnut and stopped. The truck moved forward before she was across, pushing her to the side of the road. The truck then drove off.

The woman noted the license plate of the truck, and investigators obtained video of the incident from a surveillance camera at a neighboring home.

Police located the man, who said he had not stopped because the "tags" on his truck were expired, and because he assumed she was OK. The woman, who declined aid immediately after the incident, later told police that her right side was sore from the impact.

The man also was found to have been driving with a suspended license.
