BRIEF: Van seen on video leads to burglary suspect

WENATCHEE, Feb 09, 2013 (The Wenatchee World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A distinctive van that showed up on a video helped Wenatchee police arrest a burglary suspect Friday morning.

Gregory W. May, 39, of East Wenatchee, was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center on suspicion of second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, third-degree theft, third-degree malicious mischief and second-degree arson.

Officials at The Avenue Car Wash, 610 S. Wenatchee Ave., reported Friday morning that coins had been taken from the business. On video from the business, police saw a mini van with a rear rack that had a tool box on the rack. "It was a very unusual vehicle," said Sgt. Cheri Smith.

Detectives began canvassing businesses that had coin counters and, while checking one out at Safeway in East Wenatchee, they saw the suspect vehicle in the store parking lot. They got owner information and arrested May inside the store.

The arson charge stems from a small fire that was lit at the business, Smith said. It did not cause any damage.

Smith said the suspect's image was also visible on the video.
