Press Release
HAMILTON, ON, Feb. 12, 2013, 2013 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)
- Burlington Detachment, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) -
Stoney Creek Detachment, and the Hamilton Police Service (HPS) are
participating in an officer "exchange" program commencing February 03,
2013. Each department will host an officer from the other force for a
three month period of time.
This program will expose the participating officers to the different
duties normally attributed to each individual agency including
enforcement of a diverse range of federal and provincial statutes. This
exchange is expected to broaden the respective knowledge base and
expose each officer to the unique duties and tasks that they may not
normally encounter with their own police service.
For those people traveling on the Queen Elizabeth Way, Highway 403 and
other highways in the Halton/Hamilton area, they should expect to see
both Hamilton Police andRCMP uniformed officers participating in
highway safety duties with the OPP detachment. Hamiltonians should
expect to see both RCMP and OPP officers responding to calls for
service within the city limits.
Public safety is always the primary concern and this program will allow
for more visibility, accessibility and interaction amongst the
participating agencies. The public will also have the opportunity to
interact with these police officers in a unique manner.
