Zelle Hofmann Announces Call for Applications for $30,000 Diversity in Law Scholarship

MINNEAPOLIS --(Business Wire)--

The law firm of Zelle Hofmann Voelbel & Mason LLP recognizes that nurturing a culture of diversity in the legal profession is more than policy statements and written goals. To that end, the firm is pleased to announce a call for applications for its 2013 Diversity in Law Scholarship.

The scholarship, which will award the selected recipient a total of $30,000, is designed to encourage and facilitate diverse students, as well as students with a proven interest in diversity-related issues, in pursuing the law as a profession. The application deadline for submission is April 1, 2013.

A keystone of the firm's Diversity Outreach Plan, the Diversity in Law Scholarship was created for law students who are either (1) a member of a diverse group (broadly defined to include race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity, physical disability or economic/educational disadvantage) that is historically underrepresented in the private practice of law; or (2) demonstrate a long-standing commitment to diversit that will be furthered by award of the scholarship.


Selection considerations will include but not be limited to: academic performance, writing skills, demonstrated leadership skills, an interest in litigation (including antitrust and insurance litigation), financial need, and a desire to practice in one of the cities where Zelle Hofmann maintains an office.

The scholarship is to be applied towards the selected recipient's law school tuition, fees, and text books, with one half of the scholarship paid for the student's second year of law school and one half of the scholarship paid for the student's third year of law school subject to the following: To receive the second installment of the scholarship, the recipient must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (or its equivalent) through the student's second year of law school.
