Makarem & Associates Files Suit against Commerce Casino for Sexual Harassment Allegations
LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)--
Makarem & Associates has filed suit against California Commerce Club,
Inc. on behalf of a former employee ("Plaintiff") for sexual harassment
and wrongful termination allegations.
The Plaintiff represented by Makarem & Associates is a former employee
of Commerce Casino who worked in the Food/Beverage and Security
Department from 2008 to 2010. She alleges that during her employment,
she suffered sexual harassment from multiple employees from Commerce
Casino; which included derogatory comments, inappropriate touching; and
numerous threats from other co-workers.
The Plaintiff claims she complained to numerous supervisors in both her
shift and other shifts, to no avail. Commerce Casino claims that the
Plaintiff failed to properly complain about this conduct within her
"chain of command." Commerce Casino further claims that the complaints
she made, which resulted in written "memos to file," were resolved, yet
no actual discipline occurred.
The Plaintiff quit her position in July, 2010 to avoid the sexual
harassment and later filed a claim with the DFEH (California Department
of Fair Employment and Housing). The Plaintiff is seeking punitive
damages related to Commerce Casino's improper conduct and hostile
working environment. Jean-Paul Le Clercq, Plaintiff's attorney, states
that, "All Plaintiff wanted was for someone to help her so that she
could come to work without fear of constant harassment."
Commerce Casino opened in 1983 and is the world's largest poker card
room. In recent years, the Casino accounts for more than 30% of the City
of Commerce's yearly tax revenue. The lawsuit, Nalin Montez v.
California Commerce Club, Inc. dba Commerce Casino, County of Los
Angeles, Case No. BC 460 263, is set for an arbitration trial on
