UnitedHealthcare, Ride 2 Recovery and Veterans Present One-of-a-Kind Valentine's Gift to Simi Valley Disabled Cyclist

Ride 2 Recovery officials, UnitedHealthcare executives and veterans surprised Simi Valley disabled cyclist Jon Seyster with a one-of-a-kind Valentine's gift - "Cœur d'Or" (Heart of Gold) - a customized hand cycle specially designed for him. Seyster, an avid supporter of wounded veterans, participates in Ride 2 Recovery rides across the nation.

The new hand cycle is among the lightest ever built with a customized pedaling system and replaces an older, much heavier hand cycle that Seyster has been riding with the veterans for nearly two years. The new cycle will enable Seyster, diagnosed with cerebral palsy and hearing loss, to continue participating in Ride 2 Recovery's long-distance rides including the 2013 Golden State Challenge, where hundreds of injured veterans and their supporters will embark on a week-long, 450-mile ride in October from the San Francisco Bay area to Santa Monica.

Ride 2 Recovery is a nonprofit organization that supports physical and psychological rehabilitation programs for injured veterans, featuring cycling as its core activity. From indoor spinning training at military installations to multiday, long-distance rides, Ride 2 Recovery helps injured veterans heal through the challenge of cycling long distances using hand cycles, recumbents, tandems and traditional road bikes.
