BRIEF: Washington's Gillis grabs medal
DES MOINES, Feb 15, 2013 (The Gazette - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Cedar Rapids Washington heavyweight Zac Gillis will tote some hardware home with him Saturday night.
The Warriors senior won his second straight consolation match to move into the top eight of his weight Friday at the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 3A state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.
Gillis scored a takedown late in the third period for a 3-1 win over North Scott's fifth-ranked Cegan Long.
Eighth-ranked Gillis (37-5) dropped a 3-1 match to top-ranked Pedro Gomez of Marshalltown in the first round, but rebounded with a pin of Waukee's Ryan Glenn in Thursday's first-round consolations. He could still place as high as third.
