China Telecom to build 4G trial networks, Deutsche Bank
BEIJING, Feb 16, 2013 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
A Deutsche Bank report reveals
that China Telecom (CHA.NYSE; 00728.HK) plans to construct and open
4G networks step by step and roll out 4G services in major cities
first, according to management of the telecom operator.
The report says that a Deutsche Bank analyst has met China
Telecom management and felt optimistic about the prospects of 4G.
According to the report, China Telecom management says that it
will roll out 4G services in phases and promote in major cities
first. Since the telecom operator has excellent 3G coverage in China,
it could construct the same number of 4G base stations in urban
regions as China Mobile (CHL.NYSE; 00941.HK) and China Unicom
(CHU.NYSE; 00762.HK; 600050.SH). But China Telecom has fewer base
stations in the rural regions, where it may incur greater costs in
three to four years after the initial provision of 4G services.
Deutsche Bank said that to prevent lagging behind China Mobile
in the 4G business operation in future, China Telecom was expected to
launch 4G trial network construction in 2013 and the scale
construction might be equivalent to China Mobile's trial networks
constructed in 2012. (Edited by Luo Jingjing, luojj@xinhua.org)
