Geoblocks in price inquiry's sights
Feb 17, 2013 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The House of Representative infrastructure & communications committee is considering legislative changes that would remove restrictions on Australian online shoppers. Companies use geoblocking technology to prevent buyers from acquiring their products and services at lower prices. It is common in retailing to use different pricing on websites depending on buyers' geographic location. For example, Australian users are charged $A1,062 for Photoshop editing software bought through Adobe's website while local buyers in the US pay only $US669 ($A674).
