BRIEF: ComEd tallies 1M transactions via smartphone app [Chicago Tribune]
(Chicago Tribune (IL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 18--ComEd's leap into the 21st Century is catching on swiftly with customers, the utility said Monday.
ComEd said its smartphone application has facilitated more than 1 million transactions -- everything from consumers managing their bills to reporting power outages -- since its inception last April. About 59,000 customers have downloaded the app.
The company also said that 102,000 customers have signed-up for its text messaging service, where customers can text OUT to 26633 (COMED) to report an outage and receive information about when power is expected to be restored.
As part of its technology focused customer relations effort, ComEd also claims to be the first utility to allow customers to report outages through Facebook and offers an interactive outage map on its website.
ComEd serves a total of 3.8 million customers across Northern Illinois.
