BRIEF: Young achiever: William "Billy" Aikins

Noteworthy: He won first place for District 27 in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy Audio-Essay Scholarship Competition. His essay discussed how current events address the necessity and relevance of the U.S. Constitution.

Family: Bill and Maria Aikins and brothers Colin, 13, and Austin, 11
School: Sophomore at St. Joseph High School, Harrison
Activities/interests: Aikins tutors in the school's Latin Club and is a member of its robotics, forensics and mock trial teams. He plays junior varsity soccer and varsity tennis and likes to write short stories and draw in his spare time.
Quote: "The beauty of the Constitution is that it's a document that transcends time. It makes our country great. It protects our freedoms, and we need to understand the document so when those freedoms are threatened, we can fight for them."
