Trial date set for bank robbery suspect

MT. VERNON, Feb 21, 2013 (Mt. Vernon Register-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- -- A trial date of March 12 has been confirmed for one of the three suspects in a pair of Mt. Vernon bank robberies that occurred late last year.


Pre-trial dates of March 5 and 9 have been scheduled for 27-year-old Amy Ramsey of Waltonville, and her trial is scheduled to begin on March 12, according to court officials. Ramsey is being represented by Public Defender Sean Featherstun.

Ramsey is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of financial institution robbery, Class 1 felonies. The charges stem from the Dec. 10 robbery of the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union.

Jeffrey Wilson, 41, of Waltonville, also appeared in court this week. He is accused of robbing the Community First Bank of the Heartland in Woodlawn in November, and he and wife Jessica Wilson, are also suspects in the credit union robbery.

During his court appearance, Jeffrey Wilson waived his right to a speedy trial while his attorney, William Margulis of St. Louis, reviews discovery materials. Margulis asked for a continuance, which was granted by Judge Barry Vaughan. Wilson is due back in court on at 9:30 a.m. March 12.

Wilson has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one charge of financial institution robbery for the credit union robbery and armed robbery, two counts of financial institution robbery and aggravated robbery in connection with the holdup of the Woodlawn bank. An undetermined amount of money was taken in both robberies.

In February, Judge David Overstreet granted a bond reduction for Jessica Wilson from $500,000 to $50,000 on the condition that Wilson receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation from Gateway Foundation, based in Carbondale. No new court dates have been set for Jessica Wilson.
