BRIEF: Vineland school officials to have hearing on teacher Friday
VINELAND, Feb 21, 2013 (The Press of Atlantic City - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
School district officials will hold a fact-finding hearing on Friday regarding the placing of teacher and City Councilman John Procopio on paid administrative leave following an alleged confrontation with a student.
The incident stemmed from Tuesday's power failure on the Vineland High School campus on Chestnut Avenue.
District personnel director Joseph Rossi said a student in Procopio's charge called his mother about the power failure. The district on Tuesday had waived its policy banning cell-phone use during classes because of the "extraordinary situation, he said.
Procopio allegedly tried to prevent the student from using the cell phone and a "verbal confrontation" ensued, Rossi said.
