Child pornography suspect sought on warrant

Police are searching for a Decatur man who was reported missing by his family Tuesday and is now a suspect in a child pornography case.
Family told police that Gerald W. Long, 23, was last seen leaving his residence in his truck about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Earlier Tuesday, members of the Decatur Police Department Emergency Response Team, juvenile detectives and an investigator from the Illinois Attorney General's Office executed a search warrant at Long's residence for evidence linked to the possession or production of child pornography, police Lt. Cody Moore said in a news release Friday.
The search warrant was the result of a covert investigation conducted by a juvenile detective assigned to the department's Internet Crimes Against Children unit and the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Police seized computers and several electronic and digital pieces of evidence from the residence.
Long was not arrested at the time, pending examination of the computers and other evidence, but his family reported that he began making threats to harm himself shortly after police left his home. He then left the residence in his truck and hasn't been seen since.
On Thursday, police requested an arrest warrant for Long for the offense of possession and production of child pornography in light of the forensic examination of the computers and evidence seized at his home.
He is currently out on bail in a July 23 aggravated criminal sexual abuse case and is due in court March 28 for a pretrial hearing.
Anyone who sees Long or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call police at 424-2711.
