Odessa man charged with assaulting woman
Feb 23, 2013 (Odessa American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Odessa police charged 40-year-old Joe Alvarez Jr. with aggravated assault, the latest accusation of domestic violence against the man.
According to an arrest affidavit, a former girlfriend of Alvarez suffered a broken nose and other injuries when he assaulted her and he choked her until she lost consciousness at an Odessa home on Wednesday.
The woman escaped, according to the affidavit, by telling Alvarez she was going to get her medicine for a chronic disease but instead fled to the police department.
Records of the Ector County Detention Center state Alvarez violated a protective order with the assault.
Alvarez, 220 N. Judkins Drive, remained Friday in the jail on a total $60,000 bond.
In September, Alvarez was charged with assaulting and sexually assaulting another woman, according to a previous Odessa American story that cited court records. Then, Alvarez dragged a woman from her car by her hair, drove her to his home, then punched, slapped and kicked the woman before sexually assaulting her, according to court records previously reported.
Public records show Alvarez has a lengthy criminal history including convictions for drug possession and assault.
