BRIEF: Police investigate shooting at west Charlotte gas station
Feb 23, 2013 (The Charlotte Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating an early-morning shooting Saturday outside a gas station that left a bystander hurt.
The shooting occurred before 3 a.m. at a Shell gas station on Freedom Drive.
Police said two men were in an altercation outside of the gas station when one of them pulled out a gun and fired.
A man who was not involved in the altercation was shot, police said. The victim's injuries were initially described as life-threatening but police said mid-Saturday that he is expected to be OK.
No arrests have been made in the case yet, but detectives with CMPD's assault with a deadly weapon unit were still investigating the crime.
Officers were initially looking for a Chevy Caprice that left the area. But a watch commander said mid-Saturday that a review of video footage showed the car wasn't actually involved in the shooting.
Anyone with information on the case can call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
