BRIEF: Suspect in college bomb threat arraigned

CORSICANA, Feb 23, 2013 (Corsicana Daily Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The 20-year-old Houston man that confessed to phoning in a bomb threat to Navarro College this week was arraigned Saturday.

Navarro College Police obtained an arrest warrant for Desmond Van Dyke Friday, after Van Dyke confessed to phoning in a bomb threat on Wednesday afternoon that prompted the closing of the college Wednesday night and Thursday. That action also caused a one-day delay in the final interview for a candidate for the college presidency.

Justice of the Peace Jackie Freeland arraigned Van Dyke Saturday on charges of false alarm or report, a Class A Misdemeanor, and set bond at $10,000.

Van Dyke told college police during an interview Friday he was frustrated with attempts to register for classes at the college. Police were able to obtain phone records that assisted them in tracking down Van Dyke.

Operations at the college returned to normal on Friday.
