BRIEF: Fatal wreck in Clifton Twp. under investigation
CLIFTON TWP., Feb 24, 2013 (The Times-Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
An Archbald man was killed and two other men were injured in a wreck early Saturday.
Michael Evans, 33, died in the 1:35 a.m. crash.
The driver of a Jeep Cherokee traveling south on Route 435 tried to make a left turn onto Phillips Road, into the path of a Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling north on Route 435, troopers said.
The driver of the rig, 65-year-old William A. Frankenfield Jr., was unable to avoid a collision and struck the Jeep at the passenger side door, troopers said. The Jeep rolled over, striking several utility poles before coming to rest on its roof. Mr. Evans was pinned beneath the Jeep.
Mr. Frankenfield and the other person in the Jeep, Matthew Robert Gajdys, 32, of Moscow, suffered moderate injuries, troopers said. It was not clear who was driving.
Gouldsboro Fire Chief Mike Slowik, who was at the scene, said a passenger was ejected from the Jeep.
"Just a very hectic mess," Chief Slowik said. "That's it."
The investigation is ongoing. An autopsy of Mr. Evans has been scheduled, according to Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland.
