Weather cancels 5A basketball selection show, might force delay in release of 4A, 5A brackets
Feb 24, 2013 (The Gazette (Colorado Springs - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Coaches, players and fans of 4A and 5A basketball programs might have to wait a little longer to learn not only of their playoff fate, but who their first-round opponents will be when the postseason opens Tuesday and Wednesday.
Due to a snowstorm and blizzard that affected the entire Front Range, the Colorado High School Activities Association canceled the annual 5A Boys' & Girls' Basketball Selection Show, scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Doubletree Hotel in Aurora.
The 5A Boys' & Girls' Basketball Selection Show is the first source where all teams who make the 48-team bracket and their placement are revealed. The weather may also force a postponement in the formal seeding of the teams in the classification. That decision will be made later Sunday, CHSAA Assistant Commissioner Bert Borgmann said.
However, Sand Creek athletic director Autumn Sereno told The Gazette that the 4A brackets would be released Sunday afternoon.
Girls' 4A and 5A first-round games are scheduled for Tuesday. Boys' 4A and 5A action commences Wednesday.
While the 5A selection committee has been meeting since Saturday on the bracket, the 4A committee was set to have met earlier Sunday to set that bracket, the CHSAA said in a press release. The 48 state qualifiers in 4A are established from eight districts, with each receiving a pre-determined number of berths.
