Ex-chief doomed by failure to chart course

Ten Network's outgoing CEO James Warburton unwittingly helped to engineer his own demise in 2009, when he was at the Seven Network. Ten was a market leader in the key 16-39 age demographic at the time, but Seven and Nine launched new digital channels that cannibalised Ten's core viewers. Ten has also made a number of other costly mistakes in recent years, including an ill-fated bid to bulk up its news offerings and the launch of some high-profile but unsuccessful reality shows.
