BRIEF: Orlando police make arrest in baseball-bat beating, robbery
Feb 28, 2013 (Orlando Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Surveillance video led Orlando police to a man they say beat two women with a baseball bat in downtown Orlando and stole one of their purses.
Juan Carrillo, 48, was escorted past a line of reporters about 12:30 a.m. Thursday and placed in a waiting police car for a ride to the Orange County Jail. Police obtained a warrant and arrested him late Wednesday.
"I did not [do it]," he said when asked about the attack.
But investigators say Carrillo is the man captured on video whacking the women in the head as they were about to enter The Grande condominiums, 300 E. South St., about 12:25 a.m. Sunday. He was wearing blue shirt and a tie at the time.
Both women were knocked to the ground, but one was able to run for help as she bled. The women said their attacker was a stranger to them.
"He wants to commit this robbery, and he used a deadly weapon to do it," said Sgt. Jim Young, a police spokesman.
Carrillo was arrested on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, attempted murder and false imprisonment.
He has no permanent address, instead staying with acquaintances and moving frequently, Young said.
