Police: Chesapeake pastor exposed himself on webcam [The Virginian-Pilot]

(Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 01--CHESAPEAKE -- Police said this morning a South Norfolk pastor who volunteered as a chaplain for the Chesapeake Police Department exposed his genitals via a webcam to an undercover deputy posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Haden D. Conrad, of the 1200 block of Orville Ave., was charged Wednesday with using a computer to solicit a child under the age of 15, according to police. Conrad was chatting with an undercover Spotsylvania County sheriff's deputy he met in an online chat room, Officer Kelly O'Sullivan, a spokeswoman, wrote in a news release.

Police served search warrants at Conrad's home and business in the 1200 block of Chesapeake Ave., police wrote in a news release.

Conrad, 32, has been the pastor at Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church since July 2011, according to General District Court records. The church was founded in 1892.

Conrad also has been a volunteer chaplain with the Chesapeake Police Department since May 30, 2012, O'Sullivan said. Conrad's volunteer service was terminated after he was charged, she said. Chaplains typically accompany police to notify the family of a loved one's loss or go on ride-alongs with police, she said.

Conrad is married with two foster children, according to court documents. The children have been placed into another home, O'Sullivan said Friday.

He holds a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Virginia Tech and received a master's in divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, according to the church's website.

Before serving as a pastor in Chesapeake, he was pastor at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Bremen, Ga., according to the church website.

The police Internet Crimes Against Children Unit investigated Conrad and charged him in connection with incidents stemming from July 18 and 19, 2012, according to court records.

Conrad is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. He is being held at the Chesapeake Correctional Center without bond.
