(AME Info (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 04--SAUDI AD MARKET REPRESENTS 29 percent OF REGION'S MARKET: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) has said the Saudi advertising market is estimated at nearly SR1.5bn and accounts for 29 percent of the total GCC market, Arab News has reported. Electronic advertising market currently represents 12 percent of the total, or SR150m, said Faras Adel Al-Maddah, chairman of the Advertising Committee at JCCI. "Electronic advertising rose in the kingdom 14 times during the last five years from SR11m in 2008 to SR150m in 2012," he said.


YAHOO TO SHUT DOWN 'UNSUCCESSFUL' PRODUCTS: Yahoo Inc. has announced seven of its products, including its mobile app for Blackberry smartphones, are to be shut down, as part of new chief executive Marissa Mayer's efforts to eliminate unsuccessful products en-masse, Reuters has reported. Yahoo said its app for Blackberry smartphones would no longer be available for download, or supported by Yahoo, as of April 1. Yahoo also said that on April 1 it will stop supporting Yahoo Avatars as well as Yahoo App Search, Yahoo Sports IQ, Yahoo Clues, the Yahoo Message Boards website and the Yahoo Updates API.

YAMMER TO ROLL OUT REAL-TIME MESSAGE TRANSLATION: Microsoft's enterprise social network Yammer has unveiled plans to add real-time message translation to its business collaboration platform by way of the Microsoft Translator engine, PC Magazine has reported. The translation service will be available for 39 languages and the new feature is expected to be made available to Yammer Enterprise licencees in "late spring 2013," Yammer said. Yammer has plenty of non-English speakers among its seven million users and is hoping to attract more when it brings message translation online, Microsoft said. Some 65 percent of Yammer's user base is located outside of the US, though the company didn't break down how many were non-English speaking.
