Mike Weinstein departing State Attorney's Office

Mike Weinstein will be leaving State Attorney Angela Corey's inner circle this month.
Weinstein, who served in the Florida House and launched unsuccessful bids for the state Senate and mayor of Jacksonville, confirmed he will resign as an assistant state attorney March 15.
"When I came in with Angela, I committed to staying for her first term," Weinstein said Monday. "Now that she's been re-elected, it was the right time to step back and decide what to do next."
Weinstein has served as executive director of the State Attorney's Office and also an assistant state attorney focused on economic crimes.
He was executive director when Ed Austin was state attorney in the 1980s, serving 15 years with Austin and then four more with Corey.
Weinstein, who lost his race for the Senate to Aaron Bean last year, said he hasn't ruled out running for elected office again. But he doesn't have anything specific planned. He also previously served as chief financial officer for Austin when he was mayor and for former Mayor John Delaney.
He was executive director of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission, president of the Jacksonville Super Bowl Host Committee and president of Take Stock in Children, a nonprofit for underage children.
