2 men sought in CMC parking deck holdup
Mar 06, 2013 (The Charlotte Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and Carolinas Medical Center security officials have released surveillance photos of suspects wanted in the armed robbery early Monday of a woman in one of the hospital's parking decks.
The robbery was reported about 1 a.m. in the deck, off Scott Avenue in the Dilworth neighborhood.
The woman was robbed at gunpoint as she was getting into her car in the parking deck. Two men approached her and demanded personal items, then ran off, police say. The victim was not injured.
Police say one suspect was a black male, approximately 5-foot-9, with a thin build and dreadlocks. He was wearing a dark sweatshirt and jeans. A second suspect was also a black male about 5-foot-9 and thin with dreadlocks. He was wearing a multi-colored jacket and tan pants.
Police believe the men left the scene in an early 2000 model Jeep Grand Cherokee with black rims and tires.
CMC has security officers on patrol at all hours at the parking deck.
The incident is the latest robbery scare at a Charlotte hospital in less than a year.
Last summer, three employees of Presbyterian Hospital were attacked or robbed near the hospital. In July, Lejarris Williams, 31, of Charlotte, was arrested in connection with one of the robberies in one of the hospital's parking decks.
Those crimes sparked a heavy police presence at the hospital. Security personnel could be seen escorting employees into the hospital building.
Williams, who was charged with robbery, possession of a gun by a felon and resisting arrest, has been in Mecklenburg jail since his arrest in July, according to jail records.
Officers encourage anyone with information about Tuesday's robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Staff writer Steve Lyttle contributed.
