OW2 Unveils CHOReOS, the Open Source Platform to Develop and Run the Next Generation of Ultra-Scalable Applications for the Future Internet

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CeBIT, Hanover, Germany, (PRWEB) March 07, 2013 OW2, the global open source community for open source middleware and application platforms, unveils the CHOReOS platform at CeBIT 2013. CHOReOS develops an innovative software engineering technology and runtime platform to build and run ultra-scalable, context-aware applications for the Future Internet.

The next generation of large-scale Internet applications will connect hundreds of millions of applications, devices and systems; they require a new approach to developing and running distributed applications. The solution is unveiled on the OW2 booth at CeBIT 2013; it includes a breakthrough model-driven software engineering approach called choreography of services and an open source software platform called the CHOReOS Integrated Development and Runtime Environment (IDRE).

Service-based applications traditionally follow a centralized orchestration principle. While service orchestration works well for enterprise applications, it does not scale to the order of magnitude required by applications of the Internet of the future. Such applications, interconnecting millions of devices, including smart phones, cameras, cars, health care sensors, etc., need to be ultra-scalable; they require a new approach in software engineering. The CHOReOS Integrated Development and Runtime Environment (IDRE) provides a comprehensive, open source solution for the design, deployment, execution and evolution of self-adaptive, large-scale applications for the Future Internet. CHOReOS-based applications are characterized by their innovative inner-coordination mechanism called service choreography. The CHOReOS service choreography-based applications are developed with no centralized control nor point of failure, because they seamlessly share responsibility between the different stakeholders and components in complex systems.

CHOReOS demonstrations presented at CeBIT include:    •  Passenger-Friendly Airport Use Case: choreography-based applications improve services to passengers    •  Multi-Source Monitoring: real-time monitoring and SLA verification at runtime    •  The CHOReOS development process: from requirements to choreography specification, synthesis and discovery to deployment and enactment “We are proud to be presenting CHOReOS to the public for the first time at CeBIT,” says Sebastien Keller of Thales and CHOReOS project leader, “thanks to their decentralized structure and self-adaptive nature service choreography-based applications will be key to the successful emergence of the Internet of the Future,” he adds.

The CHOReOS consortium includes 16 commercial and academic organizations from six European countries (France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia and the UK). This international team of experts develops and supports a model-driven process for the development and execution of large-scale service choreographies.

Come and discover CHOReOS at CeBIT, March 5-9, on the OW2 booth (Open Source Park, Hall 6, booth #F16) and do not miss the CHOReOS conference (Open Source Park, Hall 6, March 9th, 3:15pm) by Pierre Chatel, Thales R&T Software Engineer.

About CHOReOS CHOReOS “Large Scale Choreographies for the Future Internet“ is a three-year R&D project funded in part by the European Union FP7 programme and developed by a consortium of 16 partners bringing together industry and academic leaders, technology start-ups and open source community expertise. CHOReOS implements a framework for the development and execution of highly scalable choreography-based service-oriented applications. The goal is to enable domain experts to develop decentralized ultra-large scale (ULS) solutions composed of heterogeneous services that are adaptable and QoS (Quality-of-Service) aware.
