BRIEF: Beaverton robotics teams among those headed to World Championships

Robotics teams from Beaverton, Lake Oswego and Newberg will head to the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championships in St. Louis after taking top wins at a tournament Sunday at South Meadows Middle School.
The statewide robotics competition brought together 36 top middle and high school teams to compete with custom-made robots in an all-day competition in Hillsboro titled, "Ring It Up.
The four teams headed to the world championships in April are, Batteries in Black, a Beaverton 4-H team; Untitled-8, a Lake Oswego neighborhood team; Newberg Tigers, of Newberg High and Short Circuits, a Beaverton neighborhood team.Earlier in this year more than 100 teams from around Oregon and Southwest Washington competed at qualifying tournaments, and the top-performers competed Sunday..
Oregon Robotics Tournament & Outreach Program offers the FIRST Tech Challenge pre-engineering program to help students in grades 8 through 12 begin exploring technical careers.
