Catoosa man pleads guilty in child porn case

Mar 08, 2013 (Tulsa World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Catoosa man pleaded guilty Thursday in a federal child pornography case that began when he left his cell phone containing the illegal material in a local casino.

Brian Douglas Jinks, 41, admitted that he possessed child pornography last July 17. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Cyran told the court on Thursday that on June 23 security guards at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa found a cell phone that had been left behind.

Cyran said, while seeking to confirm that Jinks was the owner of the phone, security officials noticed that the phone contained images of child pornography.

The Cherokee Nation Marshal Service notified Tulsa FBI agents who confronted Jinks at his place of employment on July 17, according to Cyran.

Cyran said more than 2,000 images of child pornography, which had been downloaded from the Internet, were found on the phone.

He said the large number of images is one of the reasons why Jinks is facing between 78 to 97 months in prison when he is sentenced by U.S. District Judge Claire Eagan on June 10.

The same sentencing date has been set for another man who pleaded guilty Thursday in an unrelated child pornography possession prosecution.

Leonel Manzo Jr., 21, of Owasso pleaded guilty in a case that Cyran said had its origins in an undercover FBI operation that was operated in New Haven, Conn.

Cyran told the court that an agent in Connecticut notified the Tulsa FBI office that a computer user in northeastern Oklahoma possessed files containing child pornography. He said agents were able to trace the activity to Manzo, which led to a search warrant being executed on Jan. 20, 2012, and the seizure of two hard drives.

Cyran said more than 3,300 images and 17 videos of child pornography were found.

Manzo faces a prison sentence at or near the 10-year statutory maximum, according to Cyran and Assistant Federal Public Defender Martin Hart.
