BRIEF: Contra Costa seeks civil grand jury applicants

Mar 08, 2013 (Contra Costa Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Contra Costa County INQUIRING MINDS NEEDED: Contra Costa seeks residents to serve on its civil grand jury for the 2013-2014 term.

Civil grand juries are often referred to as the "citizen watchdogs" over local government.

The 19-member panel monitors and investigates city, county and special district governments.

To serve, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, a Contra Costa County resident and not serving in any elected office.

The job requires at least 20 hours a week. Jurors with outside jobs must obtain a release from their employers. Members are paid a stipend and reimbursed for approved travel.

Superior Court judges will interview 60 applicants and nominate 30 names, from which 19 people will be randomly drawn.

The application deadline is April 12. The panel will be drawn and sworn into office on June 14.

To request an application, call 925-957-5638 or visit www.cc-courts.org/grandjury.
