Partnering for Global Impact® 2013 Announces Kiran Bedi as Keynote Speaker
ZURICH & LUGANO, Switzerland --(Business Wire)--
Partnering for Global Impact today announced that Dr. Kiran Bedi will
make a keynote address at the upcoming event in Lugano, Switzerland this
July 10-11. Dr. Bedi is well known for her work in police and prison
reforms during her time as India's highest ranking police officer, and
for her philanthropy and anti-corruption work in India.
Kiran Bedi became the first woman officer in the Indian Police Service
in 1972 and rose to the highest rank in the service. Her expertise
includes more than 35 years of creative and reformative policing and
prison management. In 1994, she received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay
Award (also called the Asian Nobel (News - Alert) Prize) for this work. She is the
founder of two NGOs, Navjyoti and India Vision Foundation, which reach
out to thousands of underserved children, women and men in the areas of
education, vocational skills, environment, counseling, and healthcare to
the urban and rural poor. Her NGOs run community colleges, registered
with the Indira Gandhi National Open University, to provide vocational
and soft skills to marginalized Indian youth. She is also the autor of
several books.
Dr. Bedi has been consistently voted as India's most admired and trusted
woman. Currently, she is in the vanguard of the nationwide India Against
Corruption movement led by Shri Anna Hazare. Team Anna drafted the Jan
Lokpal Bill to deter corruption. The bill is currently waiting to become
an official Act before Parliament.
Dr. Bedi will join Partnering for Global Impact on July 11.
"I look forward to sharing my experiences in creating innovative and
achievable ways for the young, underserved population to become a
powerful 'demographic dividend' for their own communities and humanity
at large," said Dr. Bedi. "The pioneering work of many impact investors
and venture philanthropists can support many of the initiatives that
maximize impact."
Partnering for Global Impact will feature a dynamic program with a
select group of initiatives being presented and a series of panel
discussions, plenaries and keynotes exploring new models of impact
investment and venture philanthropy engagement.
