AT&T adding to staff in state [The Sacramento Bee]
(Sacramento Bee (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 09--AT&T said Friday that it is looking to hire more than 500 new employees throughout California, including more than 50 in the Sacramento area.
The telecommunications company said it is seeking splicing technicians and outside plant technicians to support growing customer demand for the company's U-verse services, including digital TV, high-speed Internet and voice services.
In Sacramento, AT&T said it's aiming to fill about 54 positions, most of them splicers.
Statewide, AT&T is seeking candidates in nearly a dozen communities stretching from San Diego to Eureka.
The jobs are full-time positions for a term of up to three years.
Some candidates will receive paid job training. Other benefits are available, including medical, dental and vision insurance; a 401(k) plan; and company-provided vehicles and tools.
Candidates are encouraged to apply at www.att.jobs/termtechnicians.
" ... We are investing in Sacramento and in California to empower, engage and transform the way people interact with each other and the world around them," said Ken McNeely, president of AT&T California.
AT&T splicing technicians do a variety of tasks, including installations, disconnecting and upgrading customer services, splices in various types of communication cable, analyzing schematic drawings, detecting defective wires or fibers and repairing or maintaining outside cable facilities.
Outside plant techs place aerial and underground copper and fiber cable, perform splicing tasks, do construction work and occasionally operate heavy power equipment at plant facilities.
AT&T recently said it had invested nearly $425 million in its wireless and wireline networks in the Sacramento area from 2010-12. That includes hundreds of wireless network upgrades.
Statewide, during that same three-year period, AT&T said it put more than $7 billion into its wireless and wired networks.
Dallas-based AT&T Inc. is one of the largest employers in the nation, providing more than 240,000 jobs companywide.
