Tablet for the tough [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]

(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) FOR users who work more outside the confines of the office cubicle, the new semi-rugged convertible tablet PC, the Toughbook CF- C2, may just be the right sidekick.

Recently made available for the Malaysian market, the model offers Windows 8 Pro operating system and Intel Core i5-3427U vPro processor to offer performance and touch input.

"We've been offering touchscreen features for a long time already but the new Windows 8 operating system adds more touch points and gestures for the users to take advantage of," says Satoshi Mizobata, director, Toughbook Asia Pacific Group, Panasonic Systems Communications Asia Pacific.

The model also includes "assisted triple hinge" and ergonomic strap to suit the mobile workforce such as field engineers, aviation techicians and medical practitioners.

Weighing about 1.78kg, the model supports hot-swappable battery and can stay powered for one minute after the drained battery is removed to be replaced with a fully charged pack.

Comes with spill resistant keyboard, touch pad and palm rest, the design also includes WLAN and 3G mobile broadband connectivity. Customisation options for the model includes smart card reader, finger print reader, modem and Near Field Communication (NFC).

"We also looked at how our customers use the first generation model, CF-C1 and we have improved the design from there. For example, we add in more protection at the corners after seeing the C1 getting a lot dents and cracks there. We will continue to improve all of our Toughbooks to cater to our customers' needs," offers Mizobata.CF-C2.
