The Myelin Repair Foundation Receives $2 Million Gift from Anonymous Trust to Accelerate Myelin Repair Therapeutics for Multiple Sclerosis
SARATOGA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
The Myelin
Repair Foundation (MRF) today announced the generous donation of $2
million from an anonymous trust, to support the acceleration of myelin
repair therapeutic development for multiple sclerosis (MS). Following a
thorough vetting process to maximize the gift's impact to help MS
patients, the Myelin Repair Foundation was selected to receive the
donation.
The Myelin Repair Foundation was named the recipient of this bequest in
the will of the anonymous donor whose niece and nephew have MS. Multiple
Sclerosis is a disease associated with a genetic predisposition and can
run in families.
This donation will support the Myelin Repair Foundation's unique
approach to speed myelin repair research throughout the entire
therapeutic development continuum, ensuring promising basic scientific
research moves forward to prepare the best compounds for clinical
trials. The MRF established its Accelerated
Research Collaboration™ (ARC™) model, allowing for seamless
coordination between academia, the biopharma industry and other entities
throughout the therapeutics development process to advance clinically
relevant science forward to patients.
"We are honored to receive this generous gift, following a careful
assessment by the donor of our ARC model and our plan to bring a myelin
repair drug to MS patients," said Scott Johnson, CEO, President and
Founder of the Myelin Repair Foundation. "This donation will help propel
our research forward, bringing us closer to our goal-alleviating
suffering from MS by delivering the first myelin repair therapeutic to
the MS community."
Founded by Scott Johnson, a patient with multiple sclerosis, the Myelin
Repair Foundation is uniquely positioned as a non-profit organization to
interact with the various entities throughout the drug development
process and coordinating efforts to advance research forward into the
clinical setting. As a non-profit, the MRF is exclusively dedicated to
meeting patient need.
