UK charity launches `hijacking` app for smokers [Asian News International]
(Asian News International Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) London, Mar. 13 (ANI): The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has developed a new smartphone app to hijack cigarette packs from March 13, which is No Smoking Day, by virtually transforming them in smokers' hands into items that they will be able to afford if they quit.
The charity's Blippar, virtually transforms a cigarette pack into a puff of smoke, before revealing items that a smoker could afford with a week, month, or year's worth of smoking savings, Sky News reported.
Betty McBride, director of policy and communications at the BHF, said that they needed to up their game if they were to help people beat their addiction to tobacco by finding new ways to reach out to them.
A survey conducted for the 2013 campaign found that 11 percent of smokers wanted to kick the habit and 82 percent of 2,000 UK smokers surveyed had tried and failed to quit. (ANI)
