Frost & Sullivan Honors Vidtel with 2012 North America Frost & Sullivan Entrepreneurial Company of the Year Award

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 14, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the video conferencing hosted and managed services market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Vidtel with its 2012 North America Frost & Sullivan Entrepreneurial Company of the Year Award. The company has remained committed to its goal of expanding its global network and optimizing its performance while delivering efficient service at attractive price points to the mid-market.

"The key value propositions of Vidtel's software, which eliminates the need for hardware-based multipoint control units (MCUs), are price-performance excellence, enterprise-grade service, and channel friendliness," said Frost & Sullivan Principal Telecom Analyst Ronald Gruia. "These characteristics will enable easy connections among video conferencing endpoints anywhere in the world, while leveraging cloud technologies that are more economical and scalable than existing solutions," added Gruia.

Vidtel adopts a four-pronged strategy for market expansion. The first is to focus on the underserved midmarket, which is ripe with opportunities; the second is to address the interoperability conundrum by being a cloud provider delivering any-to-any video conferencing service; the third is to develop a channel-friendly model; and fourth, to offer a disruptive pricing model that encourages higher technology uptake.

Vidtel opted for a business plan that addresses both the advent of the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) paradigm and the proliferation of video on mobile and other devices. Vidtel can serve customers without an MCU, or they can complement customers with an existing MCU. The Vidtel MeetMe service is a cloud-based video conferencing service featuring any-to-any interoperability. For customers with an existing MCU, the Vidtel Gateway service complements that MCU by allowing it to interwork with WebRTC, Skype, and Google Talk endpoints.

Vidtel has been keen on securing a solid indirect go-to-market model. This effort culminated in the creation of a channel partner program, which enabled Vidtel to establish strong relationships with video equipment vendors, voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) service providers, managed service providers, and video value-added resellers (VARs) to re-sell Vidtel service.

"Vidtel's cloud-based video conferencing service delivers B2B connectivity across any standard video conferencing device such as Cisco/Tandberg and Polycom and newer platforms and protocols such as WebRTC, Skype, and Google Talk," observed Ronald Gruia. "The company has a comprehensive product portfolio that encompasses on-demand multi-party rooms, video dialtone, a public switched telephone network (PSTN) voice add-on, and a gateway offering that adds Skype/Google Talk to an existing MCU." "The end result is that for zero capital expenditure dollars, Vidtel provides an operational expenditure solution that is more competitive than any existing one, be it an MCU vendor, a traditional bridging service provider, or a new cloud 'MCU-less' provider," noted Gruia. "Being the consummate 'lean startup' that it is, Vidtel does not have to offer a return to venture capital firms or invest heavily in advertising and can, instead, focus on delivering value to its end customers." Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by devising a strong growth strategy and robustly implementing it. The recipient has shown strength in terms of innovation in business processes, leadership in customer value as well as market penetration. In short, the award looks at the emerging market players in the industry and recognizes their best practices that are positioned for future growth excellence.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development.
